End of an Era: Kelly Krauskopf Steps Down as Indiana Fever Team President
The architectural cornerstone of the Indiana Fever is officially moving on. In a major leadership announcement, Kelly Krauskopf confirmed she is stepping down as team president, closing an extraordinary chapter in a career spanning nearly three decades with Pacers Sports & Entertainment (PS&E).
From building the franchise from the ground up ahead of its 2000 inaugural season to delivering Indiana’s first WNBA Championship in 2012, Krauskopf’s legacy remains permanently etched in the DNA of professional basketball.
Building a Foundation of Excellence
Hired by PS&E in 1999 to build the Fever from scratch, Krauskopf served as the league’s premier operational mind. Under her guidance, Indiana emerged as one of the most consistent franchises in WNBA history:

- Championship Pedigree: Constructed the legendary 2012 title team centered around Hall of Famer Tamika Catchings and head coach Lin Dunn.
- Consistent Contender: Oversaw 12 consecutive playoff appearances from 2005 to 2016 and three WNBA Finals trips.
- Pioneering Trailblazer: Broke historical ground in 2018 when she became the NBA’s first female assistant general manager with the Indiana Pacers.
A Vision for the Modern Era
When the Fever needed a steady hand to usher in a new era of growth, Krauskopf answered the call, returning as president in 2024. During her final stint, she helped position the franchise for long-term dominance alongside franchise anchors Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston.
Owner Herb Simon captured Krauskopf’s profound influence in a heartfelt tribute:
“When we started the Fever, Kelly saw what this franchise could become. She built it, delivered a championship, and came back when we needed her… I’m proud to call her a friend.”
Beyond roster construction, Krauskopf leaves behind a monumental physical legacy: spearheading the development of the Fever’s new $78 million, 108,000-square-foot sports performance center scheduled to open in March 2027.
What Comes Next in Indianapolis?
Krauskopf’s exit signals a major turning point for the front office headed by Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Amber Cox. As Indiana prepares for a high-stakes offseason focused on roster additions and contract extensions, the foundation Krauskopf laid will guide the franchise for decades to come.
