Transfer Scoop: Aston Villa Land Christopher Nkunku in €30 Million Deal
Aston Villa have completed a major statement in the transfer market, securing the signature of French versatile forward Christopher Nkunku from AC Milan in a deal valued at €30 million. The 28-year-old international striker has put pen to paper on a long-term five-year contract at Villa Park, putting an end to intense speculation surrounding his future across Europe.
Villa successfully fended off fierce competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle United and German outfit RB Leipzig, both of whom were pushing hard to seal the forward’s services before Unai Emery’s side finalized the agreement.
Winning the Bidding War
The race for Nkunku’s signature escalated rapidly over recent days. Newcastle United had identified the attacker as a prime target to bolster their front line, while RB Leipzig explored a dramatic reunion with their former talisman, who previously registered 70 goals and 56 assists in 172 appearances for the German side.
However, Aston Villa acted decisively. Emery’s clear tactical vision and the promise of a central role in Villa’s ambitious domestic and European campaigns proved decisive in convincing the French forward to choose the West Midlands over Tyneside or a return to Saxony. Negotiation teams from Villa Park moved quickly to satisfy AC Milan’s fee expectations, sealing an agreement structure valued right at the €30 million mark.
Fresh Start After Milan & Chelsea Stints
Nkunku moves to Birmingham after a single season in Serie A with AC Milan. Having joined the Italian giants from Chelsea in August 2025, Nkunku notched eight goals and three assists across 35 appearances in all competitions for the Rossoneri. Despite showing flashes of his world-class creativity and technical brilliance at San Siro, Milan’s tactical overhaul cleared the path for a summer transfer.
The move marks Nkunku’s second spell in the Premier League. During his time with Chelsea between 2023 and 2025, injuries disrupted his ability to build consistency, although he still captured a FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Conference League title during his stay in West London.
Now fully fit and heading into the prime of his career, the former Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate arrives at Aston Villa determined to replicate the stunning individual form that saw him crowned Bundesliga Player of the Year in 2022.
What Nkunku Brings to Villa Park
Known for his agility, explosive acceleration, and clinical finishing in the final third, Nkunku gives Unai Emery tremendous tactical flexibility. Capable of playing as a central striker, an attacking midfielder, or floating off the flank, his ability to operate between the lines will add dynamic link-up play to Villa’s attacking setup.
With a five-year commitment in place, Villa fans can look forward to seeing the French international don the Claret and Blue shirt as the club aims to solidify its position among Europe’s elite.
