The Canterbury Bulldogs are set to re-sign Josh Curran to a new deal

The head of football at Canterbury Bulldogs has hinted in a mysterious way that the team plans to try to re-sign Josh Curran, a forward they recently signed, to a new contract.

The forward fell down the Auckland hierarchy in 2023, and the New Zealand Warriors cut him late in the most recent off-season.

Curran joined Belmore for the 2024 season, and he will definitely be a key member of the team for the duration of the season.

Gould, who once thought Curran should battle his way into the New South Wales State of Origin team, has always said he is destined for great things.

That hasn’t happened yet, but in response to a fan on X (previously known as Twitter), who inquired about whether the Bulldogs were considering signing Curran to a long-term contract, Gould noted Curran has always had a Bulldog appearance.

“As I said right from the first time I saw Josh Curran play, He looks like a Bulldog to me,” Gould wrote in a post.

After another disappointing start to the season due to a massive off-season recruitment drive, the director of football and his head coach Cameron Ciraldo are under a lot of pressure. However, some of that pressure was alleviated last Friday when they surprised the Sydney Roosters.

Currently, Curran’s contract with the blue and white will expire at the end of 2025, and as of November 1, he will be free to negotiate with competitors.

However, it appears that the Bulldogs’ brass is targeting the 24-year-old to be tied up before that deadline.

The forward, who can play on the edge or in the center, has already made an impression in his five Bulldogs games. He tackles at a rate of over 95% and averages 113 metres per game, playing more than 60 minutes in three of those games.
