Spurs increase backcourt depth with Chris Paul’s signinig

The signing of future Hall of Famer Chris Paul in NBA free agency and the selection of UConn star Stephon Castle in the 2024 NBA Draft will give the San Antonio Spurs a newfound depth in the backcourt for the 2024–2025 season. The Spurs re-signed guard David Duke Jr. on Friday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, giving them additional depth in their backcourt choices.

After spending the previous season on a two-way contract with the Spurs, David Duke re-signed for the 2024–2025 campaign. Duke’s NBA regular season total is restricted to 50 games due to his two-way contract, and unless his deal is converted to a traditional deal, he will not be able to participate in the postseason.

The Austin Spurs, the Spurs G League affiliate, are poised to give Duke a lot of playing time. During the G League regular season last year, he appeared in 34 games for Austin. He had an average of 20.0 points and 6.7 rebounds. 4.1% shooting from the field, 37.7% shooting from three-point range, and 78.8% shooting from the free-throw line, translating into 4.3 assists and 1.1 steals.
