Sha’Carris,Gabby Thomas Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry win Olympic gold

On Friday, Belgium’s Nafissatou Thiam cemented her position in the annals of Olympic greats with her third consecutive heptathlon title, while US sprint sensation Sha’Carri Richardson earned gold with a relay rescue act.

Sprint sensation Richardson’s incredible final leg in the women’s 4x100m relay helped the United States add to their gold medal total during another riveting evening of athletics at the Stade de France.

 

Canada easily won the men’s relay, leaving the USA’s highly anticipated team empty-handed after a terrible performance that resulted in their disqualification.

Four days after winning the 5,000m, Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet achieved a long-distance double by winning her second gold medal of the games in the 10,000m.

The small East African dubbed as the “smiling assassin” put on a brilliant display; she perfectly timed her finish to sprint home in 30 minutes and 43.25 seconds, ahead of Nadia Battocletti of Italy (silver) and Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands.

In the women’s shot put, Maddison-Lee Wesche of New Zealand lost to Germany’s Yemisi Ogunleye, who threw 19.86 meters, but Ogunleye’s thrilling final effort of 20.00 meters won her the gold medal.

With a jump of 17.86 meters, Spain’s Jordan Diaz won gold in the men’s triple jump, followed by Pedro Pichardo of Portugal in silver and Andy Diaz of Italy in bronze.

In the women’s 400-meter hurdles, Mari Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic won gold, and in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, Rai Benjamin of the United States added another gold medal to their collection by defeating Karsten Warholm of Norway.
