Sha’Carri Richardson comfortably advanced to the semifinals of the 100-meter event on Friday after dominating a straightforward preliminary round. It was her first-ever Olympic race at the Paris Games, and she won in 10.94 seconds.
On the first day of track action at a crowded Stade de France, the American won the first of eight first-round races.
In contrast to the Olympic trials earlier this month, Richardson had a strong start, went into overdrive, and easily won, tapping her chest as she passed the finish line.
On Saturday at 1:50 p.m. ET, she will compete in the semifinals; if successful, she will chase the gold a few hours later. Richardson intends to compete in the 4×100-meter relay as well as the 200-meter event.
After her run, she remarked, “To be at the Olympics is a phenomenal feeling.” “I’m thrilled and eager.
Richardson claimed that the world championship last year served as a “mini Olympics” and had equipped her for this occasion.
The Dallas native hasn’t had an easiest time getting to the Olympics. She won the 100-meter event at the trials to earn a spot on the 2021 Olympic team, but she was later disqualified for testing positive for the cannabis compound THC.
She made her track comeback in the 2021 Prefontaine Classic, where she placed eighth. Nearly two years later, she resumed her Olympic form, formally beginning her revenge tour.
At the U.S. Track & Field Championships, she won the 100 meters in 10.82 seconds. After winning the 100-meter race in the 2023 World Athletic Championships in Budapest, she went on to declare herself the fastest woman in the world. She went on to win the Prefontaine Classic in a time of 10.83 seconds to start the Olympic year.
In an interview with NBC last month, Richardson declared, “I’m better, I’m stronger, and I’m wiser.” “I just knew that I was in a different position that I’ve never been in my entire life.”
