Recently, Roger Federer traveled to France to inaugurate a renovated court for the La Courneuve neighborhood. Originally, Yannick Noah, a former French player, installed the court. At the time, Noah, the 1983 French Open winner, founded the Fête le Mur association in 1995, which included the idea. It was created as a social inclusion initiative that offers tennis instruction to youth from underprivileged areas. At the moment, Noah leads France’s Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup squads as captain. In addition, he will coach Team Europe in the Laver Cup this year. Roger Federer, in collaboration with Uniqlo, inaugurated the renovated court.
Federer sat down to talk with the children after teaching them a few lessons. The children were from a variety of backgrounds; two were from Senegal and one had parents who were refugees from Sri Lanka. The former World No. 1 hit a shot and spoke candidly about his experience to wrap out the video. The film was released as a part of the Uniqlo video series 24 Hours with Roger, in which Federer engages with various visitors to discuss concepts from both tennis and other domains.
