Ray Parlour gives his verdict on Tim Walter’s new job at Hull City

Ray Parlour, a former midfielder for Hull City, feels that Tim Walter, the new head coach, might be under pressure right from the start of the Championship season.

Owner Acun Ilicali has never disguised his desire to take the team back to the Premier League, even during a period when consolidation back in the Championship was a reasonable goal following years of unrest in East Yorkshire.

With all that had transpired prior to his appointment, including discontent with the previous administration, declining attendance, and a one-season slide from the top flight into League One, Ilicali’s optimism has been a breath of fresh air for a significant number of Tigers fans.

During parts of the previous season, it appeared as though City might finally break their seven-year ban from the top division. However, they ultimately finished one spot and three points short of the play-offs. On May 31st, the shocking news broke that Liam Rosenior had been fired and replaced by the former manager of Hamburg SV.

Although Walter, 48, is working for the first time outside of Germany, his CV to date is quite good, with a victory percentage of 50.25%.

One month and nine days before the season’s first competitive game, on July 1st, he will formally assume leadership at MKM Stadium.

There may be pressure on Walter from the start because many attribute his predecessor’s shortcomings to his unwillingness to try new things and his inability to lead a team full of players with elite Championship pedigree to the play-offs. Former Tigers loanee Parlour, who played 15 games for the team in 2007, agreed.

“You only have to look at Liam Rosenior,” Walter responded to a question about if he would lose his job if the Tigers don’t get promoted, as reported by Football League World via NetBet Casino. He performed a fantastic job with Hull City; the team significantly improved and came dangerously near to making the playoffs.

“I believe the team will finish in the top six, so the new coach will likely face pressure right away and will need to spend the majority of the season in the playoffs.”
