The NBA announced today (via Twitter) that Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has been selected the last Player of the Week for the Western Conference for the 2023–24 season, while Knicks guard Jalen Brunson has received the accolade for the Eastern Conference.
Jokic won Player of the Week for the second time in ’23–24; the first time was back in October. After leading Denver to a 3-1 week and securing the No. 2 spot in the West, the Nuggets star put a cap on what will probably be his third MVP season. He averaged 26.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 7.8 assists, and 3.0 steals in 35.5 minutes per game. Jokic had an incredible week shooting 68.8% from the field, including 83.3% from three-point range.
With his fourth Player of the Week victory of the season, Brunson, who is expected to receive MVP votes this spring as well, tied Luka Doncic for the most by any player in 2023–2024.
With a shooting line of.510/.500/.917, Brunson averaged 38.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in 37.5 minutes per game in his final four regular season games, all of which the Knicks won. These numbers do not include the 43-point performance he had on April 7 versus Milwaukee, as the week was from April 8–14.
The Western Conference award nominees were Bradley Beal, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, LeBron James, CJ McCollum, and Jokic’s colleague Jamal Murray (Twitter link). In the East, Brunson defeated Jarrett Allen, DeMar DeRozan, Tyler Herro, and Myles Turner, among other nominees.
