Michigan Running Back Blake Corum talks about his approach ahead of Alabama’s CFP showdown

Blake Corum, a running back for the University of Michigan, had an incredible regular season in 2023.

In Michigan’s 12-0 run, he scored 22 touchdowns; in the Wolverines’ 26-0 victory over Iowa in the Big Ten Championship, he scored two more.

With his 22 touchdowns prior to the B1G title, he became Michigan’s all-time leader in single-season rushing touchdowns. He now has 24 touchdowns for the season. But in terms of his career, he is in a unique position thanks to his 55 touchdowns.

He was tied with the legendary Anthony Thomas of Michigan with 55 career touchdowns. He now has the opportunity, should he play well against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff, to become the school’s all-time top rusher touchdown leader.

He knew going into this season that he could reach that number, but he needed to have a mindset of scoring touchdowns in order to do so.
“It looked a bit distant at the start of the season. However, there are games where there are three touchdowns, games where there are two, and possibly even games where there are three. In a recent press conference, Corum stated, “At the end of the season it’s like wow, you know, I’m right there” (h/t On3). “It seems like I have to get in the red zone every time I get there, regardless of whether there is a strong defense or not. Thus, while it did appear far at the start of the season, we’re here now.”

Corum has been a monster for Michigan, and it seems like he has always ended up in the end zone when the Wolverines have found themselves in the red zone.

In 2023, he recorded seven two-touchdown games and two three-touchdown games. He has a touchdown in each of Michigan’s first 13 games.
