As part of a documentary on the Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen once again demonstrated his all-around driving talent, leaving a DTM engineer in surprise.
In ‘Verstappen – Off The Beaten Track’ on Viaplay, the 26-year-old Dutch driver tests Thierry Vermeulen’s Ferrari 296 DTM vehicle at Mugello, the Italian circuit that will play host to an F1 race in 2020.
Head of track engineering Graziano Michelacci oversees Emil Frey Racing, where Vermeulen competes.
Even though Verstappen has won three Formula One championships, Michelacci was still taken aback by his performance.
In the documentary, Michelacci stated, “I usually know what to expect from certain drivers, but this was really unexpected.”
“He achieved improvements to his lap times that are unattainable in real life. Even though you anticipated this from Verstappen, you’re still taken aback.”
The technician continued: “It’s stories like that that you share later in the future when you’re on the road with your friends in a van.”
