Major injury boost for Manchester United ahead of Everton game

With Andre Onana’s declaration of fitness and availability for Sunday’s Premier League match against Everton, Manchester United will receive a significant injury boost.

Onana has struggled since his high-profile summer transfer from Inter, but he has remained a constant for Erik ten Hag, who saw his former Ajax No. 1 as the perfect successor to club great David de Gea.

But after being pulled off during Cameroon’s match against Mauritius last Friday, the 27-year-old raised concerns last week that he wouldn’t be ready for what is expected to be a difficult trip to Goodison Park.

Altay Bayindir, who joined the team in the summer after leaving Fenerbahce, was expected to make his debut, but Onana is prepared to declare himself fit, according to Fabrizio Romano.

With Luke Shaw’s return to full fitness, United is also hoping to choose the England left-back for the first time since August.
On Wednesday, Shaw participated in first team workouts under the direction of fellow defender Lisandro Martinez, who plans to return to action in the New Year after suffering a broken foot.

Due to the probable absence of both Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund, United will be facing several more injury problems.

Mason Mount will probably get the chance to compete for a starting midfield position, but it’s unclear who will spearhead United’s offensive strategy.

Despite making few appearances thus far this season, Anthony Martial seems to be the most likely choice, especially considering Marcus Rashford’s lackluster performance in a center attacking spot earlier in the campaign.
