Liam Rosenior gives his verdict after missing out on play-offs

Liam Rosenior, acknowledges that when their campaign was ended on Saturday by a 1-0 loss against Plymouth Argyle, there were tears in the Hull City dressing room.

Although Rosenior’s team never got going, City knew coming into the match that there was little prospect of sneaking into the play-offs. However, those chances were destroyed by West Brom’s decisive 3-0 victory over Preston North End.

Joe Edwards, the captain of Plymouth, gave them the lead after 40 minutes with a header into the net. Plymouth knew they would survive provided they avoided defeat. At full time, there was a mass pitch invasion in celebration of their well-earned triumph.

For City, it’s time to look back on a season that had so much potential but ultimately fell short.

A visibly distraught Rosenior told Hull Live at Home Park, “It was a tough one to take as we wanted to extend the season as long as possible.” “That dressing room is really emotional. This season, they gave me everything, even if there were boys crying.

“We didn’t make the playoffs because of anything that happened today. Throughout the season, we had a lot of opportunities and advantages that we didn’t fully utilize. Plymouth earned their victory overall, given their level of effort and passion during the match.

“We feel deeply let down. Every team fighting for relegation triumphed tonight, despite the fact that winning the championship is never easy. This league’s strength is its difficulty, regardless of the player. You can’t show there and expect to outperform teams because Plymouth will put up a fierce battle.

In the first twenty minutes, we weren’t entirely sure how to handle it, and we made some nervous choices. I wanted us to kick the ball down and start playing, but instead we changed the game to suit their style, which gave them rhythm, self-assurance, and intensity. We made bad decisions.”
