Latest injury news ahead of the EFL Championship game between West Brom and Ipswich Town

At The Hawthorn’s, West Brom will play high-flying Ipswich Town in front of the Sky Sports television cameras to start their Championship season.

The game is scheduled to air at 5:30 p.m., and Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys will be playing. After the international break, both teams can now buckle down and prepare for four interrupted months of FA Cup and Championship activity.

Here is the most recent information on injuries and the squads from the West Brom and Ipswich Town camps.

News about the West Brom team

A flurry of positive news has emerged regarding injuries ahead of two potential comebacks this coming weekend. Martin Kelly rejoining his teammates for a workout was seen on camera by the club and shared on social media. Kelly strolled through the bridge to start the practice. He may or may not be eligible for selection this weekend, and it’s unclear that he’s preparing for a comeback.

Kelly hasn’t participated in a game for the team since January 17 when they defeated Chesterfield 4-0. After being loaned out to Wigan Athletic, he made his debut but has been sidelined for months due to a knee injury. Kelly plays with a three, so even though Carlos Corberan said that he will be evaluated for a loan in January, Kelly’s possible return might offer some depth—at least in December.

Due to a calf issue sustained against Birmingham City, Talisman Swift has been out for the past six weeks. For him, Saturday is too soon, but he might play Leicester City or Cardiff City on Tuesday of next week. Josh Maja, who is ahead of Swift and hasn’t played since September due to an ankle ailment, might play against Ipswich.

Adam Reach and Daryl Dike are two of West Brom’s long-term absentees; both are anticipated to return in 2019.

Team news for Ipswich Town

There isn’t lot of injury concern for the visitors. Illness kept Brandon Williams out of their most recent game against Swansea City, but he might play this weekend. After missing many weeks due to shoulder injury, Wes Burns entered as replacement and is expected to compete for the starting position. After needing surgery for an MCL injury in October, Lee Evans is their only true serious injury concern. Prior to missing many months due to medial collateral ligament injury, he made one Championship start the year prior.
