The Washington Commanders have made it known in the open that one of their top priorities in a starting quarterback is the ability to throw a deep pass.
The commanders want a quarterback with a powerful arm as well as the ability to stretch plays when necessary.
Based solely on those characteristics, it appears that Washington will select either Caleb Williams of USC or Jayden Daniels of LSU in the NFL Draft this year because they both have large arms and significant athletic potential.
However, The 33rd Team has a different perspective and chooses to select Drake Maye of North Carolina with choice No. 2.
“Maye looks the part and possesses surprising athleticism, allowing him to threaten defenses with his legs,” noted The 33rd Team. Having saying that, Maye lacks the arm cannon you would anticipate given his stature. With his size and running prowess, he resembles Justin Herbert, although his arm strength is more average than exceptional.”
The outlet continues, saying that while Maye stands out due to his consistency in comparison to Daniels, picking the LSU quarterback is undoubtedly a reasonable choice.
Many have predicted that Daniels will sign with the Commanders after the NFL Scouting Combine ended. Former coach Ron Rivera recently stated, “You’ve got Kliff Kingsbury, a guy that likes the mobile quarterback – a quarterback that can move in the pocket – that can make the plays when they’re downfield and throw the football,” in reference to Daniels’ potential destination. The key, in my opinion, is having a mobile quarterback.”
