JUST IN:Wrexham released Centre-back Fiacre Kelleher

Only a few months after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover, Wrexham released the brother of a Liverpool great.

Wrexham’s trajectory has been steadily improving ever since Hollywood couple Reynolds and McElhenney secured their ownership of the Welsh club in early 2021.

Just one year after winning the National League and making a comeback to the Football League, Phil Parkinson’s team was promoted to League One last weekend, capping a 19-year exile.

Although the group has experienced rapid growth, not every member was invited to go with it.

Midway through the 2020–21 season, Reynolds and McElhenney finished their takeover, and at the conclusion of the season, they let go of Caoimhin Kelleher, the brother of Liverpool’s goalkeeper.

center-back While his brother is attempting to assist Liverpool in winning the Premier League, Fiacre Kelleher is now embroiled in a relegation struggle with League Two Colchester United.

Colchester is currently four points above the drop zone in the League Two standings, ranked 22nd.

The 28-year-old played for Wrexham during the 2020–21 season, appearing in 42 games for the National League team.

But Wrexham declined to extend the former Celtics player’s one-year deal, and as a result, he signed a free agency contract with Bradford City.

Before joining Colchester last summer, he played on loan at Solihull Moors for the previous season. Due to a thigh muscle tear, he has only made 10 appearances thus far this season.

Now that he’s back in action, Fiacre might be able to assist Colchester maintain their Football League status.

Despite suffering from injuries and facing the possibility of being demoted, his younger brother Caoimhin has contributed surprisingly to Liverpool’s title run.

During a two-month period, the Irish goalkeeper filled in for the injured Alisson Becker, starting ten Premier League games.

In addition, the 25-year-old started all six EFL Cup games and all but one of Liverpool’s Europa League games en route to winning the Wembley final.
