The 33-year-old’s three-year relationship with the Black Cats is officially coming to an end, and it appears that he will head into the free agent market. Despite having made 67 appearances for the team, he will leave when his contract expires.
Evans, who attended Manchester United’s academy, is well-known in Yorkshire after playing for Hull for two stints and amassing nearly 100 games. Before making the transfer permanent, he initially played for the Tigers on loan from Manchester United.
“Corry Evans will leave the club this summer after a moving to the Stadium of Light in July 2021 and making 67 appearances in red and white,” Sunderland said in a statement.
“Towards the end of the 2021–22 campaign, the midfielder led Sunderland on an incredible journey that resulted in victory at Wembley Stadium and promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.”
Evans, who was well-liked in the locker room and on the terraces, says goodbye after contributing significantly to the team’s advancement over the previous three seasons.
Jack Diamond, a winger who spent three loan stints in Yorkshire with Harrogate Town, has also been released by Sunderland.
