JUST IN:Miami Heat guard Josh Richardson gives verdict on his future

“Sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium that Josh Richardson, a heat guard, is choosing to exercise his $3 million player option in order to return for the 2024–25 campaign. Prior to suffering a shoulder injury in February, Richardson was an important member of Miami’s rotation. He should fully recuperate in time for the upcoming season.

Richardson had to be sidelined for surgery in early March due to a shoulder ailment. Richardson’s first prognosis said that he would miss a few weeks and that the Heat would reevaluate him shortly after. He missed the remainder of the 2023–24 season, therefore it is evident that the reevaluation was not successful.
Richardson served as a reliable wing option for Erik Spoelstra throughout the Heat’s 2016–17 campaign. Richardson’s acquaintance with Spoelstra has also been helpful. Richardson averaged 9.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists on 44/35/94 shooting splits in 43 games this season (six starts).

Richardson offers the Heat good value at $3 million. Even though Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler are the team’s main players, the group still needs role players to fill in at different spots. That’s exactly what Richardson did before to the accident.

Richardson has played for six teams throughout the course of his nine-year career, including two stints with the Heat. In that time, he has averaged 11.6 points and made 36% of his 3-pointers.
