From the transfer portal, Pat Kelsey has received his first commitment from a player who is not from Charleston.
It’s also a significant one for Louisville University.
James Madison’s Terrence Edwards, the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, is visiting Louisville on Tuesday and has committed to the Cardinals. First reported by Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68, and confirmed by Cardinal Authority.
Williams traveled to Florida State and arrived late on Monday night.
This season, Edwards played in 36 games and averaged 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, while shooting 34.3 percent from three-point range.
The 6-foot-6, 190-pound winger from Atlanta won Sun Belt Player of the Year this season before leading the Dukes to an NCAA tournament bid. He had previously won Sun Belt Sixth Man of the Year the previous season. Despite winning 32 games this season, James Madison was defeated by Duke in the NCAA Tournament’s second round.
Throughout his career, Edwards participated in 117 games over four seasons at James Madison. Throughout his career, he grabbed 525 rebounds, 278 assists, and 111 steals in addition to scoring 1,414 points. During his tenure with the Dukes, he shot 46.2 percent from the field.
Edwards will have one more year of eligibility after choosing his future school.
Numerous universities, including Florida State, Arkansas, Tennessee, Auburn, Creighton, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Xavier, and the University of Louisiana, have gotten in touch with Edwards. On Wednesday, he went through the transfer portal.
Edwards is presently ranked by 247Sports as the No. 4 combo guard and the No. 34 prospect in the transfer portal.
Last Thursday, Kelsey was named the next coach of Louisville. Edwards and Iowa guard Tony Perkins are among the targets he has communicated with outside of the transfer site.
After spending nine years at Winthrop, Kelsey brought her 261-122 head coaching record to Louisville from Charleston.
Ty-Laur Johnson and Emmanual Okorafor are the only two players from Louisville’s roster from the previous campaign who are not in the transfer portal at this time. Before deciding on their futures, the majority of the current U of L athletes listed on the site are anticipated to meet with Kelsey while they are still enrolled on college.
