JUST IN:Hull City star Abdulkadir Omur expresses hurt after Euro 2024 snub

Abdulkadir Omur, a star for Hull City, has expressed his frustration at not being included in Turkey’s squad for the European Championships. The competition begins on Friday night in Germany at the Allianz Arena in Munich, where the hosts will play Scotland.

Omur has been a consistent member of the national team lately. He was included in Vincenzo Montella’s first training group prior to the competition and appeared to have raised his expectations after a run of strong City performances following his January transfer from Trabzonspor.

He participated in 45 minutes of the penultimate warm-up match, a goalless draw with Italy, last Tuesday, but he was not present for the final friendly match against Poland on Monday night. The national team enters the finals having suffered three straight losses, most notably a 6-1 thrashing in Austria back in March.
The decision to start their Group F campaign against Georgia in Dortmund on Tuesday afternoon has angered many in the nation. Montella’s team will then play Portugal five days later and finish the group stage against the Czech Republic. However, they will do so without one of their best players.

Omur’s performance for City and his nation had many people believing he would be a lock for the selection, but that turned out not to be the case. The Tigers star, along with teammate Ozan Tufan, expressed their disappointment at losing out and their anger at being left out. Tufan believed his performance in the Championship might have brought Omur back from the cold for a third major tournament.

The 24-year-old expressed his anger and sadness at not being selected for the European Championship team. “My hope and my goal was to be able to play in the championship game. I had a strong desire to compete in the Championship and fight side by side with my teammates because I genuinely thought I could contribute. To all of my comrades who will battle to honor our magnificent crescent and star jersey, I wish you success.”
