Ryan Giles has been heavily linked with a move back to the MKM Stadium.
Despite Luton being in the Championship and being Tigers’ main opponents. Nonetheless, they seem open to sell, with Giles seemingly out of the picture despite the team going down a league.
The left-back would appear 11 times in the top level last term for the Hatters, five of those being starts. He’d struggle for consistent minutes, something which he’d later get during his January move to Hull. Making 17 appearances, Giles’ presence almost helped the Tigers into the Championship play-offs, though they’d ultimately fall just short, losing to Plymouth Argyle on the final day of the season which would in turn put them in 7th.
Missing out on the play-offs would also cost manager Liam Rosenior to lose his job and its sure to be a summer of upheaval at the club. It will be new manager Tim Walter, who is formally taking charge from July, who will have the last say on whether Giles is brought back or not.
It had previously been stated that Hull had the option to permanently sign the left-back for £4 million, but no advancements are still to be made and there are now serious worries over whether a move is to happen.
In addition to that, they look to be facing some competition for the defender, with Middlesbrough, who had previously kept an interest in Giles, currently watching the situation according to The Northern Echo.
Although manager Michael Carrick is comfortable with his present options in the position, they are still investigating a move for the 24-year-old, preferably on a loan. That said interest may in turn lead to Hull acting quicker and they may try to reach a deal with Luton.
