Following the Championship season, Hull City announced its retained list, and a number of first team players left the MKM Stadium.
Although City had wanted to have a new manager in place to make the ultimate decisions, owner Acun Ilicali is still in talks with Tim Walter in the hopes of bringing in the much sought-after German over the course of the upcoming week.
The club has released Greg Docherty, Adama Traore, Aaron Connolly, Cyrus Christie, David Robson, and Vaughn Covil, and their contracts have not been extended. Veteran striker Billy Sharp has also left the team when his short-term contract expired.
After playing a crucial part in the Tigers’ promotion and League One championship in his first season after joining from the Rangers, Docherty’s four-year contract with the team ended last summer and his 12-month option was activated.
Christie and Mali international Traore both signed two-year contracts when they arrived in the summer of 2022, but City decided not to exercise their 12-month options. Meanwhile, striker Connolly’s one-year contract will not be renewed following a season in which he scored eight goals in the Championship during another campaign marred by injury issues.
Popular midfielder Docherty appeared in 142 games for City overall, tallying seven goals and nine assists, while Christie, a defender, participated in 56, recording three goals and three assists. Similar to Christie, attacking midfielder Traore played in 37 games for Black and Amber, tallying three goals and an equal number of assists. During his two stints at the MKM Stadium, Connolly, 24, scored 10 goals in 36 games.
On June 30, the loan agreements for Ryan Giles, Tyler Morton, Fabio Carvalho, Noah Ohio, Liam Delap, and Anass Zaroury will come to an end.
Bora Aydinlik, whose loan period at Fenerbahce expired, will rejoin the Under-21 team, while Sincere Hall, Jack Leckie, Kyle Fanning, and Nathan Tinsdale have all been extended new agreements. Jake Brown, Ajay Weston, Rajdeep Palit, Joseph Johnson, and Oliver Green will be released, and the one-year options of Harry Wood, Jake Leake, Tom Nixon, and Jevon Mills have been triggered.
After agreeing to professional contracts, Rocco Coyle, Callum Yam, George Wilson, Jaedyn Chibanga, and Paul Iggulden will join the Under-21 squad.
