Premier League champions Manchester City and Hull City are in talks about a potential transfer for Liam Delap, according to vice-chairman Tan Kesler.
Following his summer transfer from the Etihad, the 21-year-old striker has been a City mainstay this season, tallying eight goals in thirty-one Championship appearances.
He missed fifteen games during a pivotal period of the season due to an unforeseen knee injury that he sustained early in the new year. He finally made a comeback with five games remaining in the season, with City still vying for a spot in the play-offs, which they ultimately missed.
Kesler said that in the end, the decision would depend on the player and what he wants next for his bright career, together with the new Tigers manager. Delap proved to be a genuine hit on the terraces, with supporters asking him to stay and owner Acun Ilicali trying to keep him at the MKM Stadium.
Both yes and no. When asked if bringing the potent frontman back was feasible, the vice chairman of City told Hull Live, “The chairman wants him so badly.” “He (Ilicali) would have physically invested in him and attempted to buy him if we hadn’t had Financial Fair Play (FFP) and EFL laws. You know how passionate he is about football and about making improvements, which is why we adore him (Delap). That’s Ilicali.
“In the end, he plays for Man City, and he also most likely has personal goals. His agent has been in contact with us. Though it must make (financial) sense, I don’t see why not (sign him).
“We need to be able to both make and spend money for him. If Man City decides not to sell him, a loan back to us might be an alternative.”
Although it was rumored earlier this month that Man City had placed a £10 million price tag on Delap, Kesler claims that the Tigers had not received a quote from Etihad Stadium managers with those amounts.
“I don’t know who mentions those numbers because we’ve inquired from Man City the sale price, but there’s not a set price on him in the market at the moment, so I think it’s more tabloids than realistic.”
