It was debatable if Jarrod Bowen, months after his debut cap, could have made the Qatar 2022 World Cup roster.
Between 2017 and 2020, Bowen was one of the Championship’s and undoubtedly Hull City’s brightest stars. He has been steadily improving since scoring his first goal in 96 career goals against Aston Villa in his debut second-tier match.
His impact on the East Yorkshire team was further evidenced when, four years ago, Hull fell from the play-off picture to League One and Bowen experienced his first taste of regular top flight football. Hull’s collapse was attributed to his rumored £22 million exit to West Ham.
However, the Leominster-born winger has really emerged in the last two seasons, contributing 33 league goals since the start of 2022–2023 and making a name for himself in Europe, particularly following his UEFA Conference League winning goal in Prague a year ago.
Like the previously mentioned Wharton and Eze, Bowen’s primary concern is the opposition he encounters, especially Bukayo Saka, who is undoubtedly and understandably many people’s first pick to start on the right wing.
The 27-year-old, who has sadly not been able to contribute a goal while wearing the renowned jersey, will surely be used as a replacement at some time since he has shown threat in each of his eight caps.
Whatever the case, Bowen’s inclusion has already been welcomed by all those associated with the club; those who attended MKM Stadium during the days when attendance was low in particular are hoping that their former winger will be able to contribute to, hopefully, a successful tournament.
