JUST IN:Bobby Witt Jr. scores three runs as the Royals defeat the Cardinals 8-3

On Saturday evening, the Kansas City Royals defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 8-3 thanks to three runs scored by Bobby Witt Jr. and six strikeouts in seven innings from Michael Wacha.

The Royals scored four runs in the seventh inning thanks to RBI singles from Maikel Garcia, RBI triples from Witt, and a two-run, opposite-field home run to right by Salvador Perez. On the thirteenth anniversary of his Major League debut, Perez, the 2015 World Series MVP, went 1 for 3 with the home run.

“Tonight’s situational hitting was really good,” stated Matt Quatraro, manager of Kansas City. In order to advance runners and apply pressure by stealing a few bases, we had a lot of hits. We exerted every ounce of effort to stay in that match.

For the first time since 2016, Kansas City’s season series was secured with the victory. The two-game set was shared by the teams.

Wacha(9-6) allowed two walks and five hits in addition to two runs. This season, in eight of his ten starts at Kauffman Stadium, he has given up two runs or fewer. It was Lucas Erceg’s fourth save.

“Today, I felt like I had a lot of command over my mix and a lot of pitches working, and the defense behind me played excellent,” Wacha remarked. “We were playing for the season series here tonight, and every game is important for us right now, so I was simply happy to win. We simply never stop trying to win and create some noise.

In the seventh, Garcia gave the Royals a 3-2 lead. In the seventh, Kyle Isbel hit an RBI triple to give Kansas City insurance. The 31st run of the season was driven by Freddy Fermin.

Andre Pallante, the starting pitcher for the Cardinals, worked five and a third innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits, four walks, and four strikeouts. In relief, Ryan Fernandez (1-4) accepted the defeat.

Oliver Marmol, the manager of St. Louis, stated, “(Pallante) did a nice job for us, he really did.” He was able to continue assaulting while maintaining his attention. He did a pretty good job with that today, in my opinion.

In the second inning, Paul Goldschmidt gave the Cardinals the lead with his 18th home run of the season, a 430-foot bomb that scored two runs. St. Louis went 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position, while Nolan Gorman added two hits.
