JUST IN:Alana Reid advances to the World Under-20 Championships women’s 100m final

With a comfortable victory in her semi-final round on Tuesday in Lima, Peru, Alana Reid moved on toward being the fourth Jamaican in a row to win the women’s 100m at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships.

In her semi-final, Reid, the global Under-20 leader, ran 11.44 seconds (-0.3m/s), besting Australia’s Aleksandra Stoilova in third place and Nigeria’s Justina Tiana Eyakpobeyan in second place with a time of 11.56 seconds.

In an attempt to continue Jamaica’s dominance in the event over the previous six years, Reid—who ran 11.46 seconds in the morning’s preliminary—hopes to join fellow countrymen Briana Williams, who won in Tampere, Finland in 2018; and Tina Clayton, who won in Nairobi, Kenya in 2021 and again in Cali, Colombia in 2022.
