JUST IN: Vikings LB Danielle Hunter rejects  offer to leave

Since the Vikings signed Hunter to a new one-year, $20 million contract last summer, after receiving trade offers, his name has remained a target in the NFL.

At the trade deadline, his reputation was even better thanks to his league-high 10 sacks through eight weeks. Meirov said that Hunter begged to be kept for the rest of the season by the front office.

In fact, he approached the front desk and begged them not to trade him. Meirov declared, “I want to spend the rest of the year here.

Throughout the Hunter controversy, Darren Wolfson of KSTP has insisted that Hunter is happy with his circumstances in Minnesota and is willing to accept a team discount; however, if he draws in a sizable market, the Vikings will need to come to his aid.

Hunter is the 12th-ranked free agent according to Pro Football Focus (PFF) heading into the 2024 offseason. Teams may be more than prepared to spend a premium on an accomplished edge rusher such as Hunter if they believe he will be the difference between them and a deep postseason run.

After years of acrimonious contract disputes between the Vikings and Hunter’s agent, Hunter is about to become a free agent for the first time in his career. Hunter had previously signed a low-ball seventy-two million dollar, five-year contract that he instantly outperformed, but he would later have to show that he could maintain his health.

Despite the years-long contract disputes, Hunter hasn’t missed a game in the last two seasons and has made no secret of his desire to remain in Minnesota.

To be honest, I feel a little empty within. In a January 8 locker room interview, Hunter stated, “People may think it’s a good year, but I feel like there’s more that I could have done for my team—would have loved to make the playoffs.”
