The Arizona Cardinals are expecting Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy on a top-30 visit on Tuesday; this could be a sign of the team’s draft intentions, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
Arizona’s biggest need is WR. In terms of receiving yards (201.8), the Cardinals were 26th in the league the previous season. In free agency, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, who led the team in touchdown catches (four in 14 games), inked a $7 million, one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
With the fourth overall pick, the Cardinals may select Malik Nabers of LSU or Marvin Harrison Jr., a wide receiver from Ohio State. To assist them rebuild, general manager Monti Ossenfort recently hinted that they would move down in the draft to obtain more cash.
According to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, “this is the most obvious trade-down spot in Round 1 in terms of projected value.” “In a wide receiver class widely regarded as the deepest in recent memory, Arizona doesn’t need to take a wideout here to find playmakers for [quarterback] Kyler Murray.”
If the Cardinals decide to go down, Worthy would be a good target. Regarded as the seventh-best wide receiver in this draft class by NFL.com draft guru Daniel Jeremiah, he “seems like a taller [5-foot-11] version of Brown [5-foot-9]”.
At the scouting combine, Worthy, 20, set a record for fastest 40-yard sprint time (4.21 seconds) with his impressive pace. The 2023 third-team All-American caught 75 passes for 1,014 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games during his final season with Texas. Additionally, he had the second-highest yards per punt return (16.9) in the FBS.
The Cardinals should definitely consider trading down during the April 25–27 draft. They may take care of other matters and yet find a gifted wide receiver to improve their woeful passing game.
