TEXAS RECEIVES A COMMITMENT FROM UTSA EDGE STAR TREY MOORE

Texas kept its foot on the gas, signing many more elite recruits after signing 23 players on National Signing Day earlier this week. Trey Moore, an edge rusher from UTSA, became Texas’ third commitment via the transfer portal on Friday. In his two seasons with the Roadrunners, the sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, amassed over 100 tackles and 22 sacks.

He is ranked No. 12 overall and No. 3 overall on the transfer portal, per On3 Sports. Over other power five universities like Ohio State and Alabama, he decided for Texas. The Texas edge rusher corps, which also features sophomores Justice Finkley and Ethan Burke and junior Barryn Sorrell, will gain depth with the addition of Moore.

Sarkisian stated on signing day that he only uses the transfer portal when he is certain a player would make an immediate impression. Moore will be an important member of Texas starting in the upcoming season after showcasing his skills at UTSA.

“Our goal when using the portal is to take care of urgent needs,” Sarkisian stated. “Every guy we enter the portal for is a good fit for our values.”

Linebacker Tyanthony Smith and wide receiver Aaron Butler were the two additional high school prospects recruited by Texas following the end of early signing day. The three newcomers to the Texas team will all be early enrollees who will begin team practice in January.
