As long as the season was still going on, Hubert Davis was determined that the UNC basketball team would not concentrate on the transfer portal.
With the 2023–2024 season coming to an end, the Tar Heels are concentrating on assembling their roster for the next season.
One of the best players available on the transfer portal has reportedly been contacted by the UNC basketball team, according to Sherrell McMillan of Inside Carolina.
That player is Cade Tyson, a standout from Belmont who finished the previous season as one of the nation’s best three-point shooters.
Fans of the Tar Heels may recognize the last name because Cade is the younger brother of former outstanding player Hunter Tyson at Clemson. Being a native of Monroe, North Carolina, he also has ties to the state.
Since he first accessed the transfer portal on March 25, Tyson has been quite popular. According to 247Sports, Tyson, the 2022–23 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) freshman of the year, is ranked No. 18 among players in the transfer portal. Schools including (but not limited to) Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford, Texas, Villanova, Virginia, and Virginia Tech have expressed interest in him.
Tyson was a deadly offensive weapon this past season, averaging 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Tyson is ranked second in the country for the 2023–2024 season according to the NCAA’s three-point shooting percentage standards.
Discovering reliable scoring options will be the main priority for the UNC basketball program going forward, especially with Cormac Ryan leaving and choices still pending for players like RJ Davis and Harrison Ingram. Before North Carolina made an official approach, there were whispers about a possible relationship with the Tar Heels, as the 6-foot-7 star may consider going back to his home state for his next professional destination.
The decisions made by prospective returners will undoubtedly affect the roster for the upcoming season, making the next few weeks for the UNC basketball team quite exciting.
Do not be afraid: Cade Tyson seems like a great fit for the Tar Heels as they try to fill up their roster, and Hubert Davis and his staff are looking at every possibility to help strengthen the club for next season.
