Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets are once again competing for the title of NBA Most Valuable Player. Jokic won the prize twice over the previous three seasons, defeating Embiid both times. Embiid received his first MVP nomination last year, defeating the two-time champion.
Both centers have been putting up a great fight lately to win it again, and Jokic boosted his chances on Thursday when the Nuggets upset the Golden State Warriors in heartbreaking fashion.
In the waning seconds of the fourth quarter, with the Nuggets and the Warriors tied at 127, it appeared that overtime was inevitable. But Jokic’s 40-footer at the buzzer gave the Nuggets the lead and they won 130–127.
Jokic’s huge break came on Thursday night and into Friday morning on social media. While he participated in the conversation, former Sixers center Dwight Howard approached the play on X from a different perspective than the others.
“Joker not hitting that shot on Superman,” Howard stated. “Good shot, though.”
Howard followed up by sharing a viral video of a montage of other bigs defending Jokic, with Howard being the one to find success.
Howard has been looking for a chance to get back into the NBA this year. The NBA veteran Howard has remained a free agent for the first part of the 2023–2024 NBA season, despite the Warriors having held a workout for him back in September.
Howard began playing with the Orlando Magic in 2004 and has since established himself as one of the league’s most formidable centers. Following a protracted stay with the Magic, Howard played for a number of teams, including the Sixers, Lakers, Washington Wizards, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, and Houston Rockets.
Howard may be trying to remind teams, the Warriors in particular, that he’s still got gas in the tank with his most recent tweet.
