Since obtaining the No. 23 overall pick in a trade with the Houston Texans, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah appears to have been considering a trade-up to choose a quarterback and may be ready to move up to the top of the NFL Draft board.
The Vikings exchange picks No. 11, 23, and a first-round pick in 2025 to the New England Patriots for the third overall pick in order to advance and acquire their quarterback, according to ESPN NFL Draft expert Matt Miller’s most recent mock draft forecasts.
Even though Sam Darnold was signed, the Vikings will probably want to add a potential franchise quarterback who can make the most of outstanding wide receivers Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson and get Minnesota one step closer to being a true contender.
Miller thinks Drake Maye, a star player from North Carolina, is the Vikings’ objective.
Miller writes for ESPN and describes Maye as “big-armed and mobile.” Equipped to flourish under head coach Kevin O’Connell. Maye is raw, and in many situations it would be best for him to sit and learn for a year, but the Minnesota structure could get him on the field early. The Vikings’ offensive supporting cast is perfect for a rookie quarterback, led by Christian Darrisaw, who is a star left tackle, Justin Jefferson, who is arguably the best receiver in the league, and Jordan Addison, a very good second-year wide receiver. For the last two seasons, he has completed 62 touchdown passes and passed for 7,929 yards.
With his 3,608 yards of passing and 24 touchdowns against nine interceptions in the previous campaign, Maye established himself as one of the top three quarterbacks in this year’s class. Maye’s addition in this year’s NFL Draft could close the division gap with the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers.
