JUST IN: Miami Heat gives verdict on Jimmy Butler future

The Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler are hoping to avoid parting ways this summer. It appears that the Heat are doing everything possible to avoid an offseason separation. According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the 76ers are still looking to acquire Butler through trade once the free agency period begins. The snag is the Heat’s front office, which wants to keep Butler. The issue is that Butler wants maximum contract extension, forcing the Heat to make decision. “Sources continue to say the Sixers plan to give Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler maximum-salary extension if they can acquire him in trade,” Pompey told reporters. “But as of Tuesday, source said that was unlikely because Miami was unwilling to part ways.

There have been rumors in the media that Butler will sign with a new team before the summer is up. The Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, and Sixers have all been considered. Up until the conclusion of their season in early May, everything in the Butler and Heat marriage was going well.

Butler, who was out due to a knee injury, and Heat club president Pat Riley got into a little argument about remarks Butler made about the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks. Reports that Butler requested an extension began to appear a few days after Riley made his remarks in public on the circumstances.

Since joining the Heat in 2019, Butler has guided them to two appearances in the Finals.
