JUST IN: Liam Rosenior reacts to Hull City losing to Stoke City

Liam Rosenior conceded that his Hull City team’s 2-0 loss against relegation-threatened Stoke City was far below the caliber required.

Josh Lauren’s unguarded tap-in at the back post with fifteen minutes remaining gave the Potters a one-goal lead, and Ki-Jana Hoever’s penalty kick in stoppage time increased their lead. City had been second best throughout the dull match, which appeared to be headed for a goalless draw.

Rosenior was taken aback and upset when his team failed to muster a single shot on goal in more than ninety-five minutes, even though they had a starting lineup that included players like Jaden Philogene and Fabio Carvalho.

Rosenoir expressed his disappointment to Hull Live. “So, so disappointed,” “I believe the word to be flat. Flat because we indicated as a group that we were really, really looking forward to this game during a three-week period. Honestly, it didn’t seem like it.

“When you don’t play to your level, you have to keep the back door shut and attempt to catch up to your opponent. We weren’t even close to matching their level in possession, energy, or press.

“That is what the top teams in this league do; they don’t play to their full potential, but they still manage to prevail. Today, we managed to lose despite a set play, which is quite disheartening. The second objective is achieved when you implement the adjustments I suggested, and I’ll keep doing that until the end of the season because we need victories.

“I knew they could score in transition, so I threw caution to the wind and went with an out and out back three. I have not seen it come back; I’m not sure what happened on the second goal, but that happens just because we’re opening up and trying to get back in the game. We need wins to get where we want to be.”

“However, we made the same mistakes in the last third of the game multiple times; it’s simply a lack of killing instinct that prevents us from having a shot on goal. We frequently reach that point without pulling the trigger, choosing the incorrect course of action, or firing.

“It’s quite annoying because, from what I’ve heard from the players and staff, we focus on improving our final third play and making sure we’re ready for restarts. That is the championship’s crucial element. It is quite sad that both boxes let us down today.”

For the first time since he joined from Standard Liege in January, Rosenior started striker Noah Ohio. The attacker put in a lot of effort but received little reward, and the City manager was irritated by the dearth of passes into him in the closing third.

I felt that going with an all-out striker was the appropriate decision, so I went with Noah today. He made some excellent choices, but I was involved in some of them. I’m also guilty because we make poor decisions like failing to pass when it’s appropriate, crossing the line when it’s safe to do so, and failing to shoot when it’s appropriate.

“I think we all have to take accountability, including the players now, if we’re going to achieve what I think we can.”
