Hull City head coach Liam Rosenior says that on-loan Man City striker Liam Delap is ready to go after making his eagerly anticipated comeback from injury on Monday morning.
Due to a knee injury that fortunately did not require surgery, Delap has not played since the Sheffield Wednesday loss on New Year’s Day. As a result, he has returned to action earlier than expected.
The 21-year-old returned to East Yorkshire fit and prepared to play after completing his rehabilitation with the defending Premier League and European champions on Monday. He underwent his first training session.
Although Delap will be at MKM Stadium to see his colleagues play the Teessiders, the crucial home match against play-off opponents Middlesbrough on Wednesday night will come too soon for him. It is anticipated, though, that Delap will be in the squad to play QPR this weekend.
A smiling Rosenior told Hull Live, “Brilliant, he trained today (Monday).” “We only needed to keep an eye on his workload as we headed into a hectic week, so we adjusted the training. What a child, Coming into these final few games, he will be a huge asset for us. He appears to be well-prepared based on his training today, Monday. Wednesday is just too risky for him, but after that, he’ll be a member of the squad, and we are aware of his potential.”
Rosenior is excited about the prospect of seeing Anass Zaroury, Ryan Giles, and Fabio Carvalho play together as City attempts to secure a play-off spot in the remaining six games. City has been busy in the transfer market since Delap last pulled on the Black and Amber at Hillsborough.
“I’m looking forward to seeing him amongst Anass Zaroury, amongst Fabio Carvalho, players that he hasn’t played with before and see if he can connect with them as well as the players that we’ve had there all along who have got us to this point.”
With Tyler Morton, Ryan Giles, Anass Zaroury, Noah Ohio, Delap, and Fabio Carvalho, the City head coach now has six loan players in his matchday squad, compared to his matchday limit of five. This welcome return provides a selection dilemma for the coach. “It’s another selection headache, and I’ll make that decision based on each game and the strengths and weaknesses of each opposition,” he stated.
Rosenior says the Tigers’ medical staff must carefully handle Delap’s comeback, but acknowledges he has been a huge miss. Delap hasn’t played any behind-closed-door games as part of his recovery during his rehab at Man City’s cutting-edge training facilities. He appears to be in excellent condition, but we must exercise extreme caution when managing his minutes because of this.
We miss all of the players that have been a member of this group for an extended length of time. Liam is a popular guy in the dressing room and has a great personality.
“He usually throws off my meetings when I’m trying to be serious by laughing at the wrong moment, but I love that about him, and he’ll offer a freshness. After his absence, he had a certain freshness about him today. Both physically and mentally, he will infuse the group with new life. Being back around the place is terrific, and he’s a top player.”
