JUST IN: Liam Rosenior gives a verdict on striker selection

Liam Rosenior gave an explanation for why he didn’t start a recognized striker against Birmingham City on Tuesday night.

The head coach of the Tigers was frustrated by his team’s inability to convert their dominance into goals as they were held to a painful 1-1 draw. They were forced to pay when Lukas Jutkiewicz headed in the equalizer eight minutes from time, negating Ozan Tufan’s contentious 25th-minute strike.

Liam Delap and Aaron Connolly were sidelined by Rosenior, and Billy Sharp and January acquisition Noah Ohio began the game on the bench. The Dutch Under-21 international eventually came off the bench in the waning moments.

With twenty-five minutes remaining, Anass Zaroury entered the game, joining Tufan and Fabio Carvalho in the offensive roles, with Abdulkadir Omur and Jaden Philogene providing support.

Rosenior has been without a frontman on several occasions this season; in the last two games against West Brom and Preston, as well as at Sunderland and Southampton, he has given an explanation for his decisions.

“Aaron Connolly, a striker who played for our Under-21 team, is not fully fit,” Rosenior said to Hull Live. “Noah Ohio has shown some really good (moments), that’s by far the best he’s been on the pitch.”I’ll explain the (reasons) to you. In a friendly played behind closed doors last Tuesday, he played 90 minutes and seemed fitter, quicker, and sharper than Grimsby. In the match against Huddersfield, he wasn’t too good. We’re incorporating him into it, and Billy (Sharp) is excellent. Billy is someone who, in my opinion, can contribute experience at key junctures, particularly near the end of games.

“And we lost Liam Delap, one of the league’s greatest scorers. Since Noah is a different kind of striker, we could not obtain control and dominance if I played him early in the game.

“They are all the tiny differences. It’s not as cut-and-dry as saying we haven’t scored enough goals because we haven’t used a striker. We haven’t made the most of the opportunities.”
