With quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract predicament playing a major role, the Dallas Cowboys’ future beyond this upcoming season may be quite questionable.
Unless he and the team can agree on an extension before then, he will only have one more year left on his deal, making him a free agent in March 2025.
Nothing “noticeable” has been accomplished in the two sides’ contract negotiations, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
After Tony Romo sustained a spinal compression fracture that effectively terminated his career, Prescott became the starting quarterback position and became the face of the Cowboys organization. Prescott joined the team as a rookie in 2016.
He has a track record of consistently playing poorly in the postseason, despite his strong regular season play and brief run as a top MVP contender in 2023.
In January, he threw two early interceptions as Dallas fell behind the Green Bay Packers 27-0 and lost 48-32 in the Wild Card game. He was unimpressive in postseason losses to the rival San Francisco 49ers in 2021 and 2022.
Since the 1995 campaign, when it also won the Super Bowl, the franchise has not advanced to the NFC Championship Game.
To be a great Cowboy and fan base, winning the championship is the ultimate goal, and it is difficult to see Prescott contributing to the team’s chances of success.
Certain people believe that Dallas should let go of him and see if backup Trey Lance can succeed in the postseason this coming season, provided he doesn’t do exceptionally well.
