According to a report by The Star, Hull City and West Brom have taken notice of Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass.
Sheffield Wednesday will have to fight to hang onto the forward this summer as other Football League teams will be vying for his services. He is currently scheduled to become a free agent when his Hillsborough contract expires at the end of the following month.
After the 2023–24 season, Windass, 30, is still in negotiations with the Owls over his future. Under Danny Rohl, the team was able to maintain their position in the Championship. Having joined the South Yorkshire team in 2020, he needs to make a significant decision regarding his circumstances.
According to The Star’s most recent report on his future, Hull City, West Brom, and Stoke City—three other second-tier teams—are thinking about making a move for him before the upcoming season. Derby County, who were promoted from League One, have also been said to have shown interest.
Because of his dad’s connections to the team, Windass had previously been linked to Hull City. In the 2008 play-off final at Wembley against Bristol City, his father Dean scored the game-winning goal to secure the Tigers’ historic first-ever promotion to the Premier League.
The East Yorkshire team abruptly severed their relationship with Liam Rosenior earlier this week, leaving them without a management at the time. They were ultimately three points outside of the play-offs after finishing seventh in the previous season.
West Brom’s goal is to advance to the final and their first leg against Southampton is scheduled for this Sunday afternoon at the Hawthorns. They are currently playing Southampton in the play-off semi-finals.
Windass could be able to provide support for the attacking units of the Tigers and Baggies in the future. But for now, there will be uncertainty around both of their transfer ambitions.
He was first signed by Sheffield Wednesday on a loan, but soon after, the move became permanent.
In the League One play-off final against Barnsley the previous year, he scored the game-winning goal for them.
The Hull native has played for the Owls in 126 games across all competitions, scoring 37 goals, including seven this past season.
He spent stints with Rangers, Wigan Athletic, and Accrington Stanley before joining his present squad.
