JUST IN: Golden State Warriors gives verdict on Jonathan Kuminga

Prior to February’s deadline, the Warriors made an ineffective attempt to persuade the Lakers to think about trading LeBron James. James and other players will be targeted by Golden State this offseason, according to a later report.

Jonathan Kuminga is a young forward for Golden State that has the potential to be a valuable trade asset. He had a breakout third season in 2023–2024 and met with Steve Kerr about his lack of playing time, which was widely reported.

With an average of 12.8 points and 4.1 rebounds on.506/.280/.688 shooting in 22.1 minutes per game, Kuminga has played in 33 games, 12 of which he started. He averaged 18.7 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 2.8 APG, and 0.9 SPG on.542/.360/.787 shooting in 41 games (34 starts) after the meeting. His effective field goal percentage was 29.7.

What is the extent to which Jonathan Kuminga is available for trade this summer? Ramona Shelburne of ESPN was asked this question during her appearance on 95.7 The Game (Twitter link).

Shelburne retorted, “Nope,” “.. To keep him, I believe they will stop at nothing. Their desire to discuss him seems to be nonexistent.

Golden State also has young players and potential first-round picks, Shelburne noted. These are all attractive qualities. Should they seek a blockbuster contract, the Warriors also have options to match salaries.

As GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. described Kuminga as “virtually” untouchable following the trade deadline in February, Shelburne’s claim is consistent with his remarks.

In July, Kuminga is going to be qualified for a rookie scale extension. When the 2024–2025 season begins, Kuminga will be eligible for restricted free agency in the summer of 2025 if he and the Warriors are unable to come to an agreement on an extension.

To be a “warrior for life” is Kuminga’s stated goal, as stated in March.
