Former Hull City head coach Grant McCann is planning a second trip back to the MKM Stadium in order to try to sign defender Tom Nixon.
As the team narrowly lost out on promotion back to League One, the gifted right-back played 32 times while on loan at Doncaster Rovers under the direction of McCann, the League One title-winning coach of City.
The Railwaymen ultimately lost 2-0 to Crawley Town in Sunday’s Wembley final after Rovers, who had led 2-0 at the end of the first leg at Gresty Road, were defeated by Crewe Alexandra.
Nixon is among the players McCann would like to sign permanently at Ecopower Stadium. McCann has made it clear that he only wants players back there who can contend for the League Two championship.
Despite struggling to get consistent involvement in the second part of the season after Jamie Sterry returned from injury, the Doncaster Free Press reports that Nixon would be open to returning to the team. Though Nixon hasn’t participated in a meaningful game for the Tigers, he still has a year left on his MKM Stadium deal.
Though it’s believed Thimothee Lo-Tutala is eager to try and force his way into the first squad at the MKM Stadium, with a new manager taking over after Liam Rosenior’s departure, the former Tigers manager McCann is also eager to re-sign Lo-Tutala after the City stopper impressed during his loan term with Rovers.
