JUST IN: Florida State Defensive Backs out of …………….

A significant number of Florida State’s starting players on both sides of the ball have been lost before their Orange Bowl matchup with Georgia. Many Seminoles have chosen to use the NCAA Transfer Portal or to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Many names were missing from the two-deep on the depth chart that the program posted on Tuesday night, which showed that. Two redshirt senior defensive backs who were initially anticipated to play in the game were among the absentees.
A representative for FSU has notified NoleGameday that cornerbacks Renardo Green and Jarrian Jones have made the decision to opt out in order to concentrate on getting ready for their move to the professional ranks. Shortly after, Green posted his appreciation for his stay in Tallahassee on social media.
“First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to God for giving me the chance to play for the best college football fans and represent this amazing program. I want to express my gratitude to my family for their unwavering support and presence over this entire trip. I want to express my gratitude to the Seminole supporters for welcoming a young player who had dreamed of playing football at FSU since he was five years old, for giving me the best environment in college football, and for helping me develop into the guy I am today.”

“I am grateful to Coach Norvell for having faith in my skills from the day you arrived on campus and for providing me with this chance to represent FSU. In addition, I want to express my gratitude to coaches Shannon, Surtain, and Fuller for helping me realize my potential.”
“Lastly, while I can’t thank everyone in my email, I must mention the steadfast support and assistance I had along the process from coach Storms, Anthony Midget, Corey Fuller, and the whole FSU team. To my teammates, I will always treasure the memories we shared both on and off the field with the best guys anyone could ask for.”

“After much time and prayer with my family, I have decided to forego the bowl and enter the 2024 NFL Draft.”
PFF ranked Jones (90.5) and Green (84.3) as Florida State’s top two defensive players. A career-high 25 tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, three pass deflections, three interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and one defensive score were all achieved by Jones in 12 games played. With 43 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, 13 pass deflections, and one interception, Green appeared in all 13 games from the starting position.

Green was recognized as the Second-Team All-ACC player after the season, and Jones received honorable mention status. Following the new year, they have both accepted invitations to compete in the 2024 East-West Shrine Bowl.

Joining safety Akeem Dent as members of the defensive backfield who have opted out are the two starting defenders. The Seminoles defense players Dent, Green, Jones, Jared Verse, Fabien Lovett, Malcolm Ray, and DJ Lundy are among those who are not anticipated to participate in the game.

On Saturday, December 30, Florida State and Georgia will play in the Orange Bowl. ESPN will broadcast the game, which is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
