JUST IN: Detroit Pistons complete the signing of Taj Gibson

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Taj Gibson, a seasoned center, will be joining the Pistons.

The USC product, who was once selected in the first round, has been in the NBA since 2009. Gibson played a significant portion of his career for the Chicago Bulls after joining the league.

Over his first eight seasons of play, Gibson made 562 appearances and averaged nine points and six rebounds.

For the first time, Gibson found a new team in February 2017. Gibson played in 23 games for the Oklahoma City Thunder to close off the 2016–17 campaign after being traded to them.

In the subsequent offseason, Gibson entered the free agency market and secured a contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Gibson would play with the Wolves for two seasons. He then signed a contract with the New York Knicks in 2019.

Since signing with the Knicks, Gibson has spent two different stints with the team. He played in 49 games with the Washington Wizards last season.

Gibson played in 16 games with the Knicks a few months ago during his second tenure on the franchise. On January 7, New York waived him. Even though he signed two 10-day contracts with the Knicks a few months prior, they declined to extend their offer to him.

In 15 of his 16 games with the Knicks this season, Gibson was a substitute player. In 10 minutes on the court on average, he scored one basket and pulled down two rebounds.
