A striker is one position that Crystal Palace is expected to prioritize in the transfer market, and the team is expected to make some serious moves.
Oliver Glasner’s front line is still one of his weakest points right now, so he will aim to add strength there this summer.
While Odsonne Edouard has struggled, Jean-Philippe Mateta has been the first choice for the Austrian at the top.
Mateta will also have suitors from the Bundesliga, as he does every window, and this will probably result in the Frenchman being sacrificed this summer.
As a result, Crystal Palace may be searching for a new goal scorer, and it has now been suggested that one possibility may be in the works.
Given that the striker has been associated with Dougie Freedman for years, it should come as no surprise.
Journalist Chris Wheatley of National World reports that Palace will make another attempt to sign Eddie Nketiah this summer in an effort by Oliver Glasner to expand his alternatives for striking.
He clarified, “With Eddie Nketiah, the departure is really possible.”
“Crystal Palace has previously expressed interest; I believe they may return this summer, along with other teams, of course.”
This is an intriguing connection, as he would be a huge win for Freedman.
Palace expressed a strong interest in January and it appears that they will renew that desire in the summer. However, with a winter transfer fee of £30 million, Palace should be able to finance him this summer, as he would also be less expensive than he would have been in the middle of the season.
The fact that Nketiah has impressed at Arsenal speaks much about his talent. As a striker, he is essentially superior to both Edouard and Mateta.
Nketiah has the finishing touch needed to be a consistent goal scorer for the Eagles and is capable of playing in link-up play.
Nketiah possesses the quickness to assist the Eagles in hitting targets fast when they counterattack, which is exactly what Glasner wants his Palace squad to do.
He can reach a top speed of 32.2 km/h according to UEFA, which is significantly faster than Edouard’s top speed of 29.35 km/h according to SpeedsDB.
Nketiah would be a significant improvement over Glasner, and with more playing time and a system that maximizes his potential, we would anticipate his five-goal season total to soar.
