When it was recently revealed that offensive lineman Tyron Smith would be leaving the Dallas Cowboys in free agency to sign a new contract with the New York Jets, the team lost a significant portion of its offensive line strength. Over the past ten or so years, Smith has been a cornerstone of both the Cowboys’ running game and Dak Prescott. With free agency continuing and the NFL Draft approaching, the organization will now search for methods to replace the vacuum he leaves behind.
The Cowboys made a noble move on Tuesday by posting a poignant video tribute to Smith for his time wearing a Dallas uniform on their official team account on X, the social media platform that was formerly known as Twitter. The caption said, “Thank you, 77!”
Smith’s remarkable career with the Cowboys, along with other highlights from his tenure, were featured in the montage of video.
Smith also posted on Instagram to express his gratitude to the Cowboys organization.
According to Eric Edholm of NFL.com, Smith wrote, “Cowboy Nation,” adding, “Humbly, I don’t even know where to begin. Thirteen years is definitely a long time to summarize in a little message to hundreds of people who have contributed to my very special Dallas experience. Though there have been many ups and downs over the long and crazy journey, Cowboy Nation has supported us the entire time.
From here on out, the Cowboys will focus on the NFL Draft, which is scheduled to start in late April.
