Jimmy Butler wants to stay with the Miami Heat, sources close to The Athletic and Stadium tell NBA insider Shams Charania.
This offseason, Butler becomes eligible for an extension; NBA reporter Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald reports that Butler is anticipated to pursue a two-year agreement valued at approximately $113 million.
Next season, Butler will earn $48.8 million. For the 2025–2026 campaign, he has a $52.4 million player option.
In five games, the Heat fell to the Boston Celtics in the opening round of the postseason this year. Butler’s knee ailment prevented him from playing.
Six-time All-Star Butler shot 49.9% from the field, 41.4% from outside the arc, and 85.8% from the free-throw line this season while averaging 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.3 blocks in 60 games.
Throughout his career, Butler has averaged 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.4 blocks while playing for the Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Chicago Bulls, and Philadelphia Sixers. He has been selected for five All-NBA and five All-Defensive teams.
Some in the NBA believe Butler may ask for a trade if the Heat don’t sign him to an extension. But no solid reporting indicating that would occur has surfaced.
Butler, who appeared in 55 games with the Sixers in 2018–19, is a player that they are interested in signing. The Philadelphia Inquirer’s NBA reporter Keith Pompey claims that Philadelphia is willing to offer Butler a maximum deal.
The 76ers are keeping a careful eye on Jimmy Butler’s contract status with the Miami Heat, as Pompey noted. “If the Sixers are unable to sign Paul George in free agency, they see him as a backup plan.” Additionally, if Butler demands a trade out of Miami, the Sixers are willing to offer him a maximum-salary extension, according to sources.
This offseason, the Sixers should have about $60 million in cap room. In six games, they were defeated by the New York Knicks in the 2024 playoffs’ opening round.
