Even though Jimmy Butler, the star forward for the Miami Heat, missed the shot and Miami could have tied the game by scoring inside the 3-point line, Butler seemed unfazed by the opportunity to try a three-pointer in the closing seconds of the team’s loss to the Washington Wizards.
Butler gave a brief explanation to the reporters as to why he doesn’t feel bad about taking the game’s last deep shot.
The forward has previously garnered media attention for missing a 3-point shot with seconds remaining in a game. In the last seconds of the Heat’s Game 7 loss to the Boston Celtics in the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals, Butler missed a long-range jump attempt.
In the NBA Finals, the Celtics were defeated by Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors despite winning the decisive Game 7.
With 2.4 attempts per game, Butler is making a career-high 42.5 percent of his 3-pointers, demonstrating his excellent shooting accuracy this season. However, Butler was having trouble making 3-pointers against the Wizards, as seen by the fact that he missed all four of his tries.
After making 9 of 20 field goals, the 34-year-old finished with 23 points, three rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block.
The NBA’s bottom team defeated the Heat on Sunday. Even though the Wizards are now on a two-game winning streak, their season record is just 11-53, which is worse in the Eastern Conference than only the Detroit Pistons.
To make matters worse, Miami has dropped its last three games after losing close to the Wizards. Additionally, the Heat suffered single-digit losses to the Dallas Mavericks on March 7 and the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 8.
On Wednesday night, Butler and the Heat will try to end their current losing streak when they play the Denver Nuggets, the team that knocked them from the 2023 NBA Finals.
