Hull City goalkeeper Ryan Allsop joins Birmingham City on a permanent deal

As the team completes its first transfer during the summer window, Hull City goalkeeper Ryan Allsop has sealed a permanent move away from the MKM Stadium.

Allsop arrived late in the summer transfer window after former manager Liam Rosenior made him one of his top objectives. The two clubs agreed on an undisclosed fee for the 32-year-old stopper to sign a three-year contract, and Allsop has now joined Birmingham City permanently.

After leaving Cardiff City, the seasoned gloveman—who was born in Birmingham—played 37 times in the Championship for City, recording 10 clean sheets. With his new team, the Blues will record their tenth permanent club.

The £1.5 million signing of Ivor Pandur and Allsop’s poor play in the first few months of the new year caused a rift between Rosenior and owner Acun Ilicali, who believed the former West Brom and Derby County goalkeeper ought to have been rested.

Ilicali gave an explanation of why he thought Allsop should have been cut from the club at a fans’ Q&A session in the days after Rosenior was fired early in the month. He then clarified his remarks following the hiring of Tim Walter as the new head coach.

After Tim Walter was appointed, Ilicali stated, “I want our fans to understand something very clearly,” regarding the goalkeepers. “Pandur was a very successful player who participated in every game in the Dutch league for two seasons. Comparable to the Championship is the Dutch Premier League.

“We’re discussing a Croatian Under-21 international who played two excellent seasons in the Dutch division. I didn’t tell Liam to play when we first brought him. Liam, play Pandur, I never, ever said. Nope. I thought he would be our top pick, but the best player will win. The choice and responsibility always rest with the coach.”

Walter will begin preseason training on Monday week with Pandur, Matt Ingram, Harvey Cartright, and Thimothee Lo-Tutala as his goalkeeping quartet following Allsop’s departure.
