Hull City gives a verdict on Jacob Greaves amid Sheffield United’s interest

Given previous connections to Sheffield United, Hull City is reportedly unconcerned about the future of their highly-regarded defender, Jacob Greaves, on a move. The 23-year-old helped the Tigers keep 10 clean sheets this season, winning three penalties and dishing out four assists on the other end of the field. This week, he was chosen to the Championship team of the season.

During his tenure at the Riverside, Chris Wilder, the manager of the Blades, came dangerously close to signing Greaves for Middlesbrough. Therefore, it wouldn’t be shocking if the name of one of the second-tier’s most calm defenders appeared on his transfer wish list once more in front of a crucial summer transfer window. After being promoted last season, the Blades are currently bottom of the Premier League standings and are headed for an immediate return to the Championship.

However, as Liam Rosenior’s team looks to make a last-ditch run at the playoffs, the Tigers aren’t said to be very concerned about the possibility of losing one of their important players this summer. Greaves has a contract with Hull that runs at least until 2026, and the team is said to have the option to extend it by one more year. The Tigers are hesitant to lose their vice captain until they receive an offer that is too good to reject.

Greaves, the son of former Tigers player Mark, enrolled in Hull’s academy at the age of eight. Ashley Phillips, a defender for Tottenham Hotspur who is now on loan at Plymouth in the Championship, has also been connected to United in recent days. This is ahead of a summer that will likely witness the departure of 18 key players from Bramall Lane.

In an effort to get Rosenior promoted back to the Premier League, Chairman Acun Ilicali has backed him. If any bids were made for any of the Tigers’ key players—Jaden Philogene is also a man in demand—the Tigers’ financial status would be evaluated.

Greaves has also been linked to Spurs and Everton. His selection in the team of the season over Leeds United’s Joe Rodon caused some controversy in the West Yorkshire region. Three players were picked, including former United loanee Ethan Ampadu of Leeds.
