**Historic Feat: Michigan Beats Ohio State on the Road in Football, Basketball, Hockey, and Baseball for First Time Since 1988–89**
In a remarkable display of athletic dominance, the University of Michigan has accomplished a historic sweep over its archrival, Ohio State University, by securing road victories in football, men’s basketball, hockey, and baseball during the 2024–25 school year. This is the first time the Wolverines have achieved this feat in Columbus since the 1988–89 season, highlighting a rare convergence of excellence across multiple sports programs.
The milestone began on November 30, 2024, when Michigan’s football team defeated the Buckeyes 24–17 at Ohio Stadium. This victory marked Michigan’s third straight win over Ohio State and their first road win in the series since 2000, silencing over 100,000 Buckeye fans and cementing their place in the College Football Playoff race.
Next came men’s basketball. On January 15, 2025, the Wolverines traveled to Value City Arena and edged out Ohio State 73–69 in a hard-fought Big Ten matchup. The win snapped a three-year losing streak in Columbus and showcased Michigan’s growing strength under head coach Dusty May.
In February, the Michigan hockey team continued the trend, defeating Ohio State 4–2 at Value City Arena. The Wolverines, known for their powerhouse hockey program, used a dominant third period to put away the Buckeyes, completing a season sweep and bolstering their NCAA tournament résumé.
The final piece of the puzzle came in April when the Michigan baseball team clinched a dramatic 6–5 victory over Ohio State at Bill Davis Stadium. A late-game rally in the 9th inning, capped by a go-ahead double, sealed the win and the historic sweep. It was the Wolverines’ first baseball win in Columbus since 2018.
This unprecedented run of road victories across all four major men’s sports symbolizes a new era of Michigan athletics. Not only did it ignite pride among Wolverines fans, but it also underscored the depth and competitiveness of the university’s athletic programs. Beating Ohio State in any sport is significant, but doing so on the road and in all four major sports within a single academic year is a rare and remarkable achievement — a testament to the resurgence and unity across Michigan Athletics.
