Goodnews: Jacob Greaves set to play against Cardiff City on Saturday

Important defender Jacob Greaves will be back for Hull City on Saturday when they go to Cardiff City, which Liam Rosenior has called a must-win match.

Due to a ban, Greaves was unable to play in either of City’s two games over the Easter weekend. City suffered defeats on Good Friday against Stoke City and Monday night at Leeds United.

One of the most impressive defenders in the Championship this year, the 23-year-old Tigers academy graduate was forced to miss a few games after receiving his tenth booking of the year against Leicester City just before the international break. However, Rosenior will benefit much from his return for the journey to South Wales.

Rosenior had, as was to be expected, brought in Sean McLoughlin for the Potters match last Friday. However, the Irishman was benched at Elland Road as the Tigers head coach made an unexpected switch-up that saw captain Lewie Coyle play with Alfie Jones in the middle of the back four, Regan Slater on the right side of defense, and Tyler Morton back in midfield with Jean Michael Seri.

With the exception of three games due to suspension, Greaves has participated in 36 of City’s 39 games this season. Rosenior will be happy to have him back, as he knows that his team’s chances of finishing in the top six are dwindling. Although he has been vital in the back, he has also contributed two goals and four assists on the other end.

Having both hobbled out of the action in West Yorkshire, Rosenior will also be hoping that Ryan Giles and Coyle are well enough to travel to the principality. At full time, Giles was substituted due to a groin injury, while Coyle had a back injury from an aerial clash. Both players required ice packs in the dressing room.
